In this guide, you will be introduced to a few measures that can be taken to get your pool ready for summer. If you are ready to unwind, cool down, and take a dip in the refreshing waters of your pool, continue reading.
Step #1: Start with a Deep Clean
The first step to properly preparing your pool for the summer months is to thoroughly clean the pool. Even pools that have been covered will require cleaning.
This involves putting the entire filtration system completely together, cleaning out every single basket in the pool, removing surface debris, sweeping the bottom and sides of the pool, and – finally- vacuuming the entire interior region of the pool.
Step #2: Balance the Chemicals within the Pool
The next step to preparing your pool is to ensure that it is properly balanced. The PH level should be between 7.2 and 7.4. The alkalinity should be within the range of 80 to 120.
Chlorine levels should be no higher than 3 ppm. The calcium hardness should be in the range of 150 ppm up to 250 ppm.
To make certain your pool is balanced, you will need a pool testing kit. There are also pool professionals available that are capable of testing the chemicals in your pool and adjusting them, as necessary.
Step #3: Clean Filter Daily
Once you have cleaned the inside of the pool and the chemicals have been adjusted, you should run the pool and clean the filter each and every single day until the water is completely clear.
Remember, when cleaning the filter, to remove any debris that is on the surface of the water. Once the water is clear, you should vacuum the entire pool again.
Step #4: Replace Missing Water
Chances are, your water level will be lower than usual. If this is the case, be certain to add water in order to get the pool full. Be sure to check the chlorine levels afterwards.
Many times, when water is added, the amount of chlorine reduces to too low of an amount. Once you do this, allow the pool to run for at least 24 hours to ensure proper balance.
Step #5: Make Safety Adjustments
The final step to preparing your pool for the summer is to make any necessary adjustments in order to boost its safety.
This means replacing ladders as necessary, incorporating one of the many pool deck coatings to reduce slip and falls, ensuring it is enclosed by a fence with a safety lock on the gate, and similar measures.
